This is one of my first poems when I was just starting out. I like this one. I was pretty mad at some of the new Soldiers and all of their bitching and complaining. I just kind of had enough of it and wrote this poem. I hope you like it.
When I say I am a Sergeant, I don’t speak of self pity or shame, I speak of dignity and honor.
When I say I am a Sergeant, I don’t just speak of past accomplishments and triumphs, I use them to teach, motivate and inspire.
When I say I am a Sergeant, I have all the time in the world for you, your welfare is my responsibility, your interests are mine, your family is my family.
When I say I am a sergeant, I am the strength you seek when tears fall, I am the face of courage when fear overwhelms you, I am the compass that guides you home.
When I say I am a Sergeant, I am willing to sacrifice my life and yours, for ungrateful and undeserving people who other then your mother and father, brother and/or sister don’t give two shits about you.
When I say I am a Sergeant, I will be the first one on the battlefield, the last to leave, and I promise, I will bring you home.
When I say I am a Sergeant, My job is to be the meanest, scariest son of bitch on Gods green earth, steadfast, stern and righteous.
I am a Sergeant
